Sonik Synth 2 – General Information/Main Concepts and Features:
Why is it called a Synth Workstation?
Traditionally, sample based synthesizers that cover all of your compositional needs from synths to pianos to guitars to drums and more are termed workstation synthesizers in hardware. These workstations often include a limited MIDI sequencer.
With Sonik Synth 2 being a multi-platform plug-in you might say it is the guts of a synthesizer workstation on steroids, on par with your equally powerful software sequencer host.

What are the main differences between Sonik Synth 2 and SampleTank 2?
Sonik Synth 2 is a synthesizer workstation plug-in designed to be used like a hardware workstation keyboard or sound module, but with a wave rom that is over 100 times the size, while SampleTank 2 is open to import additional sample material from any SampleTank library as well as WAV, AIFF, SDII samples, AKAI’s 1000-3000, SampleCell’s instruments, and more.

Sonik Synth 2 is a closed sound module meant for its sounds to be single and Combi patches based on its massive included 8 gigabyte soundset. The included soundset of Sonik Synth 2 and SampleTank 2 are completely different and while both offer diverse compositional power right of the box, the two products are designed to compliment each other for building the ultimate SampleTank sound system.

Owners of SampleTank 2 L and XL can read Sonik Synth 2 sounds and combine them with the sounds of their other SampleTank 2 sound libraries and any other imported samples. Sonik Synth 2 owners do not need to own a separate SampleTank product to use it as a plug-in, but can take advantage of the additional features like sample import as well as additional sounds if they were to cross-grade to SampleTank 2 XL.

What is a Combi patch?
A Combi patch combines part presets to form more complex performance oriented sounds. Combis can be up to 16 parts (presets) total. By creating Combis with the included element presets, it is possible to use Sonik Synth 2’s synth engine to create new and expressive synthesizers from classic and experimental synth elements. Over 350 Combi patches are included with Sonik Synth 2.

Can I create my own patches?
It is possible to create two types of patches in Sonik Synth 2:
A part preset is created when a parent preset is manipulated and saved. This allows for new presets to be made without writing over the original preset.
A Combi patch is created by combining 2 or more part presets, to create more complex sounds or a multi-timbral setup.

Can I share my Sonik Synth 2 sounds with others?
You can share Combi patches with other Sonik Synth 2 users. Just give them the Combi patch out of your Sonik Synth 2 Presets folder and they can load it using their own Sonik Synth 2 software. The file is called (.IKMP). Sonik Synth 2 ships with a complete soundset. If you play with someone who has Sonik Synth 2, then they will have the same single presets that you have.

You can also share child presets (part presets you create). They are the (.stip) files located in your Sonik Synth 2 Instruments folder.
While you are free to share these two files with anyone, it is against the end-user license agreement to share any of the parent sound files: (.sti), (.stw), or (.sth).

I have Sonik Synth 2 and I do not quite understand its Pref’s Modes. Could you explain me in a simple way what the Hi Performance-Hi Quality Mode means?
Sure. Here a brief explanation about it:
By selecting "High Quality" you enable the high quality resampler, having top fidelity at the expense of a slightly higher CPU%.

By selecting "High Performance" you get a lighter CPU load, at the expense of a slightly lower audio quality.
